Image SEO, explained.

Practical answers about image audits, AI alt text and exporting files with yaSEO. Start here if you are choosing a plan or preparing images for your website.

What does the image SEO checker check?

Enter a public page URL to review alt attributes, filenames, dimensions, loading and responsive-image markup. yaSEO reads up to 40 image elements from the page's HTML and attempts to measure the first 20 images. It does not render JavaScript, crawl the whole website or find every CSS background image.

Can yaSEO generate alt text with AI?

Yes. Sign in, upload an image or audit a page, then choose Suggest alt text for an image. Add page context if it helps explain the image's purpose. The AI generates an English suggestion for you to review. Choose Use this text to apply it, or discard it. You can edit the description before exporting; existing alt text is never replaced automatically.

How many AI alt text descriptions are included?

A free account includes 5 descriptions to try in total. Pro includes 200 descriptions per calendar month, including for existing lifetime members. The Pro allowance resets on the first day of each month at 00:00 UTC, and unused descriptions do not roll over. Manual alt text edits do not use AI credits.

Does a failed or discarded suggestion use a credit?

A successful new suggestion uses one credit, even if you discard it. Failed AI provider requests do not use a credit. Requesting the same image with the same context on the same account within 30 days reuses the saved suggestion without another credit.

Does every image need descriptive alt text?

No. An image that only decorates the page can use an empty alt attribute, written as alt="". Informative images need a text alternative that conveys their purpose in that page's context. Check the page before marking an image as decorative. The AI generator is disabled for images you mark as decorative.

How do I add the generated alt text to my website?

Review the descriptions, then choose your export destination. The WordPress package works with the free yaSEO importer to create Media Library images with alt text. HTML + apps includes responsive image files, ready markup and JSON. Image files + CSV provides a manual mapping for other systems. Alt text is an HTML attribute; it is not embedded into a WebP or AVIF file. Existing pages still need to be updated and checked when you publish.

What is free, and what does Pro include?

You can audit images and export up to 3 files per batch without an account. A free account adds one active project and 5 AI descriptions to try. Pro is $4.99 per month and includes 20 images per export, 20 active projects and 200 AI descriptions per month. Processing and request limits apply to all plans.

Which image formats can I upload and export?

Upload non-animated JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF files, up to 8 MB and 24 megapixels each. A batch can contain up to 20 images. Export as WebP or AVIF with a maximum width between 100 and 2,400 pixels. Small images are not enlarged. Your plan determines how many files you can export in one batch.

Is an optimized image always smaller?

No. Format, content, quality and dimensions affect the result. Compare the preview and the original and output byte counts in the export CSV. Review image quality at the intended display size before publishing. Exported files have embedded metadata such as EXIF removed, so retain your originals if you need that information.

What is sent to the AI when I generate alt text?

When you choose Suggest alt text, yaSEO sends a resized copy of that image, with embedded metadata removed, and any page context you provide to Google's Gemini service. Uploading or auditing alone does not trigger AI generation. Only include images and context that you want the AI service to process.

How long are my images kept?

Uploaded originals and unsaved reports are held in temporary server memory for up to 15 minutes and can disappear sooner if the service restarts or reaches capacity. Saved projects retain reports, small thumbnails, edits, settings and export records. Original uploads are not stored in your project. Keep your own originals and re-upload them when needed.

How do projects and history work?

A project holds up to 50 saved audits. Save explicitly after changing alt text or settings. Saved exports record file counts and byte totals. You can archive a project to free an active slot; archived work remains readable. An account can keep up to 200 projects including archived ones.

How do I cancel Pro?

Open My projects, then Manage billing to use Stripe's customer portal. You can cancel renewal, update your payment method and view invoices. Cancellation at the end of a paid period keeps access until that period ends. Existing lifetime access remains valid; new lifetime purchases are no longer offered.

Will image SEO optimization guarantee higher rankings?

No tool can guarantee rankings. Use yaSEO to find image issues, review descriptions and prepare lighter files, then publish the changes and audit the page again. Search visibility depends on the page and many other factors. An audit score or an AI suggestion is a starting point for review, not a promise of search results.

Are the other free SEO tools still available?

Yes. The general SEO analyzer, free tools, guides and earlier scan history remain available. The general analyzer retains its existing Free and Pro scan rules. Image exports and AI descriptions have the separate limits shown on the pricing page.
